The Bay Club and BeaverFit Turn Overlooked Space Into a Member Experience

In the fitness industry, there is a growing pressure to deliver more intentional member experiences. That shift is pushing clubs to rethink overlooked spaces and invest in solutions that elevate how members experience the brand.

For operators trying to balance a premium experience with practical constraints like space, durability and differentiation, the partnership between The Bay Club Company and BeaverFit offers a clear example of how the right vendor relationship can move beyond procurement and into strategy.

For Mike Leveque, the chief development officer for The Bay Club, the need for the partnership was immediate. One of the company’s properties sits directly on the San Francisco Bay, with a rooftop training space exposed to harsh coastal conditions.

“The sea air is very caustic and previous equipment purchases have not performed well over time,” said Leveque. “We needed a durable product that could withstand the conditions that this club presents.”

Durability isn’t a new concern for operators, but in this case it was critical. Equipment failure would do more than just the average maintenance headache. It would undermine the viability of the entire outdoor concept.

BeaverFit entered as a solution provider rather than a vendor pushing standard offerings. Its focus on outdoor-ready functional training systems aligned with the environmental demands, while also activating previously underutilized space.

Many clubs feel the increasing pressure on indoor training areas, particularly as strength and functional training continue to grow in popularity. Instead of expanding square footage through costly builds, The Bay Club looked outward.

That outward look aligned with BeaverFit’s core approach — helping clubs rethink how they use the space they already have.

“Outdoor training solutions directly address this challenge by expanding usable space and offering an alternative to crowded indoor environments,” said Nick Vay, the vice president of commercial sales at BeaverFit. “We’re seeing more facilities reimagine underutilized areas — whether that’s terraces, parking lots or rooftops — and transform them into high-performing training zones.”

For The Bay Club, the rooftop became more than a scenic amenity. With the installation of a customized BeaverFit rig, it became a fully functional training destination.

“The benefit that BeaverFit gives to our operations is that we have a branded customized workout rig that allows us to activate an outdoor space of our property,” said Leveque. “The storage component keeps the space clean and uncluttered of accessories.”

That storage component is an operational win. Outdoor spaces often fail simply because they become messy, inefficient or difficult to manage. By designing organization into the system, BeaverFit helped ensure the space remained usable and visually aligned with The Bay Club’s premium positioning.

From a member standpoint, the impact is straightforward: less crowding and a differentiated environment.

“The members enjoy the versatility of the product,” said Leveque. “They can do a different workout every day on the rig.”

Versatility has become a defining expectation in modern fitness spaces. Members want freedom to move between modalities without feeling confined to a single-purpose area.

BeaverFit’s systems are designed with that flexibility in mind, combining multiple training options into a single structure, creating higher utilization per square foot. For members, it creates a sense of discovery and engagement within the experience.

The partnership’s ongoing support is what has made it so successful.

“We have been pleasantly surprised by the level of service and support BeaverFit has provided and how they stand behind the product,” said Leveque. “When there are issues, and we haven’t had many, they have solved them in a timely manner.”

In an industry where equipment downtime can quickly translate into member dissatisfaction, responsiveness matters. A strategic partner remains accountable to performance after installation.

For BeaverFit, that alignment is intentional.

“Our partnership with The Bay Club stands out because of their unwavering commitment to delivering a premium member experience,” said Vay. “There’s a shared mindset around not cutting corners and instead investing in thoughtful, high-quality solutions that truly elevate the member experience.”

That shared philosophy is what allows the relationship to function as a collaboration rather than a transaction.

The most important starting point is clarity around the problem an operator is trying to solve. That focus is what allowed The Bay Club to find a partner and product that addressed multiple operational challenges at once, rather than creating a one-dimensional upgrade.

Equally important is finding a vendor that understands the brand it’s supporting. A partner that shares the same standards for quality and experience — and remains accountable after installation — can have as much impact on member outcomes as the equipment itself. That alignment is what separates a strategic investment from a one-time purchase.
