St. Andrew’s Family Fitness Plus in Charleston, South Carolina, had an unused racquetball court that was the perfect space for small group training. But trainer Diane Betz wasn’t sure what equipment to use. Life Fitness representative Forrest Corey suggested an interesting idea — small group training with a Hammer Strength HD Elite rack.
The Hammer Strength HD Elite rack was certainly a switch for Betz, but after some consideration decided to put her faith in Corey and give the Hammer Strength HD Elite rack a shot. The move paid off in a big way and was embraced by the 3,500-member club.
CS: What was a challenge prior to partnering with Life Fitness on the Hammer Strength HD Elite rack?
DB: We didn’t have our own space [for small group training]. We didn’t have enough room. I wanted a space where I could take a small group to have their own workout.
CS: What’s great about the Hammer Strength HD Elite rack system?
DB: The Hammer Strength HD Elite rack system is really exciting. We can go above and beyond just free weights and we can do so much more with our workouts. It has really brought out potential for all of my clients. I like the one-on-one, but this way I can get them all together. They motivate themselves and work as a team. I think that brought them to new levels.
CS: How did you get people involved in this particular program?
DB: We would literally go out and grab people off of the treadmills and pull them in here. Somebody would be lifting weights and we’d [say], “This is going to be way more fun,” we’re going to pull you in and you’re going to have a great time. Everybody would leave here smiling and happy.
CS: What are the benefits of this approach?
DB: Our group training has doubled in size already and I’m [still] seeing an increase. Each month we’re getting more and more people involved. People are getting excited and they’re coming back.
