With FDA Approval Expected, European Fitness Technology Heads for American Mainstream

With FDA approval expected, makers of acclaimed European fitness technology, whole body electro muscle stimulation (EMS), plan to launch a widespread U.S. rollout beginning with an immersive showcase at FIBO USA. The event will take place December 5-8 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

By using scientifically engineered electrode suits to stimulate most of the body’s muscle groups in unison, EMS technology is shown to enhance everything from toning, strengthening and firming to physical therapy and sport-specific training.

The 11-year-old German training method is widely used in over 55 countries and by hundreds of specialized fitness studios. However, FDA regulations have limited widespread access to the technology, which has most notably been used by elite athletes and celebrities in the US to-date.

With anticipation of FDA approval on the horizon, leading global suppliers miha bodytec, XBody, StimaWELL EMS and visionbody are among the roster of FIBO USA exhibitors planning to change that.

“The widespread global success of EMS training speaks to how time-saving and effective it is,” says Helge Gützlaff, the director of international business development for miha bodytec. “FIBO USA will give mainstream American consumers and fitness industry professionals an opportunity to experience its benefits first-hand.”

Suppliers will also be joined by Matthias Lehner of Bodystreet, an innovative, EMS-centered fitness studio franchise that boasts 20-minute workouts, over 240 locations and 37,000 members across Europe. Lehner, Bodystreet’s founder, is slated to speak about the success of EMS training in the fitness studio format at FIBO’s American Health & Fitness Forum.

“Specialized fitness studios have seen immense growth in the U.S. over the past several years,” says Lehner. “Our goal is to lend insight to the many American studio owners and investors preparing to establish EMS training as an everyday, accessible fitness concept.”

Interactive exhibits across FIBO USA will invite people to try on EMS bodysuits and test them out first-hand through a variety of trainer-led exercises at different levels of intensity.

FIBO is the world’s largest interactive showcase of the people, products and ideas propelling the fitness, health and wellness industry forward today. Backed by the long-running success of FIBO Global events in Germany, China and South Africa, the inaugural FIBO USA will feature heart-pumping fitness demos and classes, hands-on exhibits, nutrition and apparel, education sessions, and instructor certification and trainings from industry juggernauts Zumba®, Spartan, American Council on Exercise (ACE), Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) and National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

The FIBO FitPass unlocks unlimited access to all EMS technology showcases and sessions, as well as celebrity meet and greets, daily workouts, workshops and lectures for fitness professionals and enthusiasts alike.

Very interesting article! The technology of electrostimulation equipment is a good complement to our training but does not replace it. Before using it, it is advisable to have knowledge of how it is used correctly.
