Is a Mastermind Group Right for You?

Is a mastermind group right for you?

This is not a trick question nor is it rhetorical. There is only one correct answer and that answer is “yes.” The real question is: Why are you not in a mastermind group? There are likely several reasons, but no good ones.

Here are the most common reasons for not joining a mastermind group:

  • “I don’t have the time.”
  • “It’s too expensive.”
  • “I don’t want my competitors to learn our secrets.”
  • “I’m not sure I have anything to share.”
  • “I’m not aware of any mastermind groups.”

Let’s take these reasons one by one and evaluate their merits.

“I don’t have the time.” With a commitment of two, one-hour meetings per month, you definitely have the time. Is the success of your business and teammates worth one hour out of every 360? In addition, with all meetings being virtual, no travel time is required.

“It’s too expensive.” Mastermind groups in the health club industry are priced in the $300 per month range with no travel costs. When you consider the value of two meetings per month, learning from some of the best and brightest in your group, and getting industry insights, research and data from your facilitator, this is a bargain. Your monthly power bill is likely more expensive.

“I don’t want my competitors to learn our secrets.” Groups are comprised of 10 non-competitors, max. You won’t be placed in a group with a direct competitor.

“I’m not sure I have anything to share.” You’ll be surprised at how much you can share. Your “this is what we do every day” is someone else’s “biggest problem we need to solve.” Just share what you experience, and I promise it will be more than enough.

“I’m not aware of any professional mastermind groups.” Great news, there are mastermind groups with 100% focus on the commercial fitness industry. The easiest way to find a group — and to find out which group is best for you — is to ask your contacts and business resources in the industry. You’ll be surprised as to what’s available and how many people are participating.

So the answer to our overarching question is an emphatic “yes” — a mastermind group is right for you. After all, every day you’re not learning and sharing, you’re going backwards.

Stay ahead in the fitness industry with exclusive updates!
