Crunch Fitness, a national fitness franchise, will open its 400th location in San Angelo, Texas, in February 2022.
In addition, the brand announced that as of October 2021, it has exceeded 128% of pre-pandemic membership levels.
“We are proud of reaching the 400th Crunch gym milestone and the momentum we have maintained, despite the many challenges that the pandemic posed on the fitness industry,” said Ben Midgley, the CEO of Crunch Franchise, in a statement. “The significant growth we experienced is a true testament to not only Crunch’s leadership in the space but to our ongoing commitment to our members and their safety. It also speaks to our franchisees’ tremendous efforts and shows that our members wanted to get back in the gym as soon as possible.”
Midgley has also previously attributed the brand’s success to its “Stay Small to Grow Large” approach, focusing on fewer franchisees who own more clubs, ultimately allowing for deeper relationships across the board.
Crunch’s growth is a positive sign for the fitness industry, after two tough years resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. More and more clubs are reporting a resurgence in memberships approaching the New Year. Though, the verdict is still out on how the Omicron variant will impact the space.
The Crunch San Angelo location is owned and operated by Undefeated Tribe and CEO Tony Hartl. This is their seventh location in Texas.
“We are beyond excited to be the 400th club within Crunch,” said Hartl, in a statement. “San Angelo is our seventh gym of 50 planned locations over the next five years. We could not have picked a better partner than Crunch Fitness.”
Crunch was founded in 1989 and started franchising in 2010. It boasts more than 1.8 million members in 30 states and internationally can be found in Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Portugal and Spain.
