The fitness industry has historically been a key supporter of Augie’s Quest to Cure ALS, a nonprofit that was formed by Augie Nieto, the founder of Life Fitness, to fund treatments and cures for the disease. Nieto was diagnosed with ALS more than 15 years ago, and over the years the fitness industry has raised millions of dollars in support of the cause.
This support is being celebrated after the recent announcement by Eledon Pharmaceuticals of positive topline results from a Phase 2 trial of the antibody therapeutic called Tegoprubart, formerly known as AT-1501. The treatment demonstrated safety, target engagement and biomarker response in patients with ALS.
Augie’s Quest has been the lead funder of the project, granting over $72 million to support the research.
“I couldn’t be more proud and hopeful for the future,” said Nieto. “This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the fitness industry. Every Bash attendee and sponsor, Team Quest for ALS runner and donor made this a reality. The results Eledon announced about Tegoprubart are even better than I hoped. They overwhelmingly show this drug has incredible promise for those living with ALS.”
The breakthrough is just a start. According to Augie’s Quest for ALS, further support is needed to fund additional research and treatments.
“There is still more work to be done and we are grateful for the support of our friends in the fitness industry who are helping to make a future without ALS a reality,” added Nieto.
