City Fitness is Expanding to New Jersey with Two New Clubs

City Fitness — the fitness and well-being brand with eight neighborhood locations across Philadelphia, over 25,000 members and nearly two decades in the business — is headed to New Jersey. City Fitness announced two new clubs in Hoboken, its first expansion outside of Philadelphia, opening in 2026.

The new locations will open at:

  • City Fitness – Maxwell Place, 1000 Maxwell Lane (September 2026)
  • City Fitness – Southend, 38 Jackson Street (December 2026)

“Nineteen years taught us one thing above everything else: people come back when they feel like they belong,” said Ken Davies, the founder and CEO. “Every City Fitness club carries the same commitment to training, recovery and community but takes on the character of the space and the people around it. That’s what we’re excited to bring to Hoboken.”

Founded in 2007, City Fitness has built its reputation in Philadelphia on a straightforward belief: people stay consistent when the experience is excellent and the environment feels genuinely welcoming. The Hoboken clubs carry that approach to a new market, designed as full-service well-being destinations where members can train, recover and be part of a community doing the same.

Like its Philadelphia locations, each Hoboken club will have City Fitness’s signature standards while taking on a character shaped by the space and neighborhood it calls home. Both locations offer cutting-edge strength and cardio equipment, including an Olympic lifting area, functional turf zone, and plate-loaded and selectorized strength sections. CF/THRIVE, the brand’s exclusive small-group coaching program developed with world-renowned strength and conditioning expert Mike Boyle, will be available at both clubs.

Maxwell Place will offer all four of City Fitness’s boutique-style group fitness studios: BURN (high-energy HIIT and strength), FOCUS (yoga, Pilates and mind-body training), SHIFT (indoor cycling), WE/FIT (City Fitness’s signature bootcamp format), and instructor-led programming designed for every level. The Southend location will follow later in the year with its own full club experience.

City Fitness’s approach to well-being extends beyond training. Both Hoboken locations will include a dedicated recovery space built on the belief that sustainable fitness requires rest and repair routines. Members will have access to infrared saunas, CryoFuzion recovery pods, Normatec compression therapy, PolarWave dry cold plunge technology, HydroMassage and other premium well-being offerings.
