Life Time launches L•AI•C, an AI wellness companion offering personalized fitness, nutrition and recovery support. Discover how health club operators can leverage AI to enhance member experiences and drive innovation

As AI becomes increasingly embedded in the wellness space, Life Time is taking a bold step forward with L•AI•C, its new AI-powered healthy way of life companion now available for free through the Life Time app. Pronounced “lay-see,” the tool provides real-time, science-backed guidance for fitness, nutrition, recovery and more — a move that could signal the future of how fitness operators integrate technology into member experiences.

Built in partnership with Microsoft and powered by Azure AI Foundry, L•AI•C is unique in its foundation: more than three decades of Life Time’s in-house expertise and extensive content library. Users can access customized workouts, supplement suggestions, sleep tips and class recommendations — all tailored to their goals and preferences. The tool is also expected to become even more personalized as it begins to incorporate wearable data and behavioral insights.

According to Bahram Akradi, the founder, chairman and CEO of Life Time, this innovation reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to elevating the member journey.

Readily available in the bottom navigation bar of the newly redesigned home page in the Life Time app, L•AI•C stands ready to help everyone enhance their individual health, wellness, performance and longevity journeys:

  • “Help me build a three-day strength program to build muscle” — with guided exercise videos and recommended reps.
  • “What supplements would you recommend for me?” — with recommendations grounded in Life Time’s trusted expertise from its in-house team of registered dietitians.
  • “Can you recommend a class for post-workout recovery?” — featuring recommendations from Life Time’s Class Collection.
  • “How do I get better sleep?” or “How can I eat more protein” — with tips from Life Time’s health coaches and curated information from its trusted and award-winning Experience Life magazine.
  • “Just as we continue expanding our athletic country clubs nationwide, we’re equally committed to enhancing our member experience through technology to complement their personal healthy way of life journeys,” said Akradi. “L•AI•C is your trusted AI companion that you can take with you anywhere you go.”

Takeaways for Other Operators

  • AI as a Value-Add, not a Replacement: Life Time’s L•AI•C doesn’t replace human coaching — it enhances it. By pulling from internal content and expert insights, the AI becomes an extension of the brand’s credibility. Operators should explore ways AI can amplify existing offerings rather than compete with them.
  • Leverage Internal Expertise: What sets L•AI•C apart from other tools on the market is its deep integration with Life Time’s proprietary content and systems. For operators, the lesson is clear: your own training manuals, class plans and coaching philosophies can be a goldmine for a branded AI tool.
  • Make Tech Accessible: L•AI•C is offered for free through the Life Time app, positioning it as a high-value member perk. Whether launching AI tools or other tech innovations, operators should consider accessibility and ease of use as critical elements of adoption.
  • Continual Evolution Matters: First launched in beta in May 2024, L•AI•C is already evolving. The takeaway for fitness leaders: innovation doesn’t stop at launch. Continual iteration ensures tech solutions remain relevant and personalized.

As the AI wellness market is projected to top $30 billion by 2030, Life Time’s launch of L•AI•C offers a glimpse into how large-scale operators are shaping the future of fitness — and a blueprint for others ready to follow.
