Charter Fitness is continuing its expansion efforts to new markets, recently setting its sights on the St. Louis metropolitan area. The company plans to open 10 new clubs in St. Louis and is actively seeking two to three franchisee groups to help develop the area.

According to Charter Fitness, the company chose the St. Louis area for development based on the area’s outlook for solid growth in the future. “The entrepreneurial spirit is very much alive here,” said Michael Vogel, the SVP of development for Charter Fitness, in a statement. “Last year, more startup companies opened their doors in the St. Louis area than in any other year in the city’s history. Tech is big here, as is healthcare, and the area is emerging as one of the nation’s leading financial service centers. All of this means more people, many with an interest in personal fitness.”

Currently, Charter Fitness boasts 35 clubs in the Chicago area. In late March 2014, the company announced its plans to develop the metropolitan area of Kansas City with 11 new clubs.

According to Dan Collins, the COO of Charter Fitness, the company separates itself apart from other health clubs with its “fitness first” attitude. “You won’t find at a Charter Fitness a lot of distracting, gaudy colors and pretentious slogans,” said Collins, in the release. “Our members are average people who put fitness first and are focused and resolute about their fitness goals. And our goal is to help them achieve theirs.”
