Consumers in the U.K. will soon gain access to a unique grocery shopping experience allowing them to not only shop healthy, but work out healthy, all in the same place.
Xercise4Less, a U.K.-based independent budget gym chain, announced that it has partnered with Tesco Extra, a U.K.-based supermarket giant, bringing Xercise4Less’ full range of gym facilities to a number of Tesco Extra locations.
Select Tesco stores will soon be transformed to feature an in-store gym as part of the company’s on-going commitment to “helping customers and colleagues live healthier lives.” Xercise4Less has also been heralded “The People’s Gym” as it embarks on a mission to make a healthy lifestyle accessible for all and make fitness fun, whatever your age or level.
This new venture will be branded “Xercise4Less at Tesco.” The first will open at Tesco’s Durham Road location in Stockton-on-Tees, U.K., where residents will soon be able to combine their weekly shopping trip with a workout.
It is expected to bring over 50 new jobs to the area, and is the first of many Xercise4Less clubs planned for Tesco stores.
The first Xercise4Less at Tesco club will be based in the mezzanine floor of the Durham Road location, occupying 32,000 square feet. This area will then be “zoned” for different activities, including cardio, a free weights area, a combat zone, a ladies-only area and a dedicated personal training zone.
The gym will also house over 300 pieces of state-of-the-art equipment supplied by Matrix, and feature over 40 free classes per week, including Boxercise, TRX®, Circuits, Pilates and Zumba®.
The gym’s indoor cycling studio will also incorporate the MyRide virtual spinning system, which will allow members to experience cycling tracks from around the world, and take on a wide variety of challenges in different kinds of terrain.
Monthly memberships will be offered from 9.99 pounds, or about $16.00.
This new partnership is part of Tesco’s ambitious expansion plans. Currently, Tesco has 3,146 locations in the U.K., and 6,784 stores worldwide.
With a successful chain of gyms in Yorkshire and Humberside, the North East, the Midlands and North West locations in the U.K., Xercise4Less announced earlier this year a target of opening another 100 clubs within the next three years.
