UFC GYM was founded in 2008 and offers a wide range of MMA and innovative fitness classes. Since its founding, UFC GYM has been able to carve its own space in the industry with its “Train Different” approach, which mimics the way a UFC athlete trains. Part of that “Train Different” approach now includes “Pound — Rockout Workout™,” a full-body cardio jam session, combining light resistance with constant simulated drumming.
Mindy Kreis, the director of group fitness for UFC Gyms, explained why the MMA company chose to add Pound to its lineup of classes.
CS: What were some challenges you faced before you chose to work with Pound — Rockout Workout?
MK: A constant challenge, yet exciting part of my role at UFC Gym, is to keep our programming fresh and innovative. Driving our “member experience” is a daily task for not only myself, but our entire team. Our members have grown to have expectations regarding the classes we deliver. Any new class format needs to align with and complement our “Train Different” approach. UFC Gym’s focus is to stay cutting-edge and have proper alignment with our core brand. For every 10 new class formats I see, only one or two connect correctly to the high energy of our operating system.
CS: How did you come to conclusion that Pound — Rockout Workout would solve your challenges?
MK: I fell in love with Kirsten and Christina, AKA “the Pound Girls” and their unique concept from the moment I attended one of their very first trainings. I was immediately impressed with their energy and passion for their concept. I appreciated the theory behind their overall programming package. In other words, the “back end” was well thought out. I felt confident that our instructors would get the right training to be successful. Since my role with UFC Gym is to blend our programming with our brand, Pound — Rockout Workout could not have been a better fit.
CS: Describe how you have implemented Pound — Rockout Workout in your club and what were you looking to accomplish?
MK: We have implemented and rolled out Pound one gym at a time. This way, each launch can build off of the last. UFC Gym has a robust social media platform. Since our members drive our posts, comments and feedback, they become the vehicle which delivers and builds excitement from club to club. In the case of Pound, the excitement and feedback we received after launching at our Concord location was off the charts. This quickly spreads to our other locations and as a result, members start asking “when are we getting this?” The buzz and excitement I expected by rolling out one club at a time has proven to be a sound strategy.
CS: How has Pound — Rockout Workout helped you and your business?
MK: Pound has delivered expectations by providing the cutting-edge, unique class format that our gym users expect. It provides our members with a unique option to mix up their workout. In addition, Pound has given our membership team another unique “talking point” when presenting our programming to our prospective member.
CS: What are the greatest benefits from working with and using Pound — Rockout Workout?
MK: Pound, as a company, gives myself and our instructor team amazing hands-on support. Its user-friendly portal called “The Label” for instructors is an invaluable tool where they can view choreography videos, sheet music (which is how Pound tracks are organized, as well as upcoming trainings, etc.). I am most happy that Kirsten and Christina change at least three tracks a month in order to keep the class flow and playlist fresh. Their philosophy is very aligned with UFC Gym in relation to creativity and innovation.
CS: What is the most important thing that Pound — Rockout Workout has helped you and your club accomplish?
MK: It has helped us with multiple things, including increased member satisfaction, steady class attendance, increased guest traffic (members wanting to bring friends) and as another value-add to our already existing program.
