Orangetheory Fitness announced it has appointed David Carney as chief operating officer, effective immediately.

Carney, most recently the CEO and president of The Rush Fitness Complex, which was purchased by Gold’s Gym in July 2014, brings more than 29 years of experience to the role.

“David’s arrival comes at a serendipitous time, as Orangetheory continues to expand and strengthen the internal resources that bring value to our franchise partners,” said Dave Long, the CEO of Orangetheory Fitness, in a statement. “He has a reputation as a leader who is collaborative, passionate and humble. Our entire leadership team unanimously believes that David is a stellar addition who can lead and inspire our franchise network towards success.”

Carney holds a bachelor’s degree in corporate wellness and human psychology from the State University of New York at Cortland and completed his graduate coursework in the exercise science department at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

With more than 124 studios, Orangetheory Fitness is a rapidly-growing franchise. The fitness franchise has a presence in 28 states and is on track to open 500 studios by 2017.
