Genesis Health Clubs has acquired the Jayhawk Tennis Center at 5200 Clinton Parkway in West Lawrence, Kansas. As a result, the Genesis Health Club on Iowa Street will close, which was a temporary location.
In addition, Genesis Health Clubs announced plans to expand the Jayhawk Tennis Center center in front of the building and add a mezzanine level to transform the location into a large scale health, fitness and tennis club, that’s more similar to some of Genesis Health Clubs’ other facilities.
An expansion is planned to be completed in early 2016. The expansion will include cardio and weight areas, three group fitness studios, updated locker rooms and a tennis viewing area on the mezzanine level.
“I’m very excited to bring Genesis tennis to the Lawrence community and also to be able to serve Lawrence on both sides of town with high-caliber facilities,” said Rodney Steven II, the owner of Genesis Health clubs, in a statement. “Since we typically own our facilities, the current leased South location on Iowa Street has been a temporary solution until we found an opportunity that we could invest in, and also allow us to have tennis facilities.”
Steven explained that upon the completion of the project he will close the Iowa Street facility and those memberships will transfer to the new club. Most Genesis members will have access to clubs on both sides of town.
Genesis Health Clubs now offers 21 locations in Kansas and Missouri. It is celebrating its 28th year in business.
