Crunch has partnered with Fitbit to launch a new program called “Acceleration powered by Fitbit.”
The 30-minute, high-intensity class is offered at select Crunch locations nationwide, and features a series of standing drills designed to torch calories, maximize steps and accelerate results. During class, participants are encouraged to view real-time stats using their Fitbit activity tracker, and are able to track personal progression week-by-week with the Fitbit app.
“We’re honored and very grateful to have this opportunity to work with Fitbit,” said Donna Cyrus, the senior vice president of programming for Crunch.
Cyrus explained the partnership came about as part of a realization that technology and fitness now go hand-in-hand. Crunch also recognized the power of fitness trackers, which allow members access to instant data they can use to monitor their fitness and health goals.
“I don’t think [fitness trackers] are a fad,” said Cyrus. “There’s a lot of them on the market. They bring people an awareness toward what they’re actually doing. I think that people have now become a lot more savvy about how you can really track your heart rate, improvement.”
The class is designed for all fitness levels, and wearing a Fitbit is not required to take the class. However, members who wish to purchase a Fitbit can do so at any Crunch location, at Crunch.com or at Fitbit.com.
Cyrus explained the plan is to incorporate Fitbits into more classes as the new partnership continues to evolve.
“I definitely think more chains will see [fitness trackers] are not to be ignored, aren’t going away, and are going to bring in more information,” continued Cyrus. “I think we’re the first to take Fitbits and really create something with the technology and actually understand why people are using them so much outside of the gym. By providing members with something to do with [fitness trackers] in the gym, it keeps us on the cutting edge of where fitness is going.”
