Many people dream about their perfect company, fantasizing about the ideal business plan, operating system and rockstar leadership team. Mystie Webster is one of those people — but instead of just fantasizing about her perfect business, she made it a reality by founding STUDIOMIX in San Francisco, California.
“STUDIOMIX is simply the creation of my ideal gym,” said Webster. “So essentially it was designed by and for the member. I love fitness — classes specifically — and what it’s done for my life. The opportunity to share that with others and create an authentic environment offering a wide variety of quality classes all day long could not be anymore of a win/win for me.”
Prior to founding STUDIOMIX, Webster had worked in a variety of leadership roles at well-known fitness clubs. There, she listened closely to the members and teams that served them on a daily basis, and discovered how both sides wanted to be treated. On her off-days, she explained she started writing a business plan for fun, crunching the numbers to see if a club based on classes could work.
“STUDIOMIX is a hybrid combination of a full-service health club and a specialized fitness studio,” said Webster. “The best of all worlds — members get the space, amenities and convenience of a large gym, paired with the personalized attention and quality of a boutique spot.”
STUDIOMIX is focused on classes all day, every day. Its space includes seven different purposefully designed studios, in which it offers classes such as barre, boxing, bootcamp, climbing, martial arts, Pilates, strength training, TRX, yoga, Zumba and more. It also has services and amenities including massage, steam and sauna, nutrition coaching, personal training, acupuncture, chiropractic, locker and towel service, WiFi, an onsite cafe and discounted garage parking.
“The highlight is you can try different stuff easily; dabble into rock climbing, check out a kettlebell class, or attempt yoga for the first time without having to drive across town and/or join a whole new studio,” said Webster. “And we have world-class instructors. The best there is, in one of the best cities in the world. We’ve got plenty of options to reconnect bodies and minds, along with the support structure to keep you challenged and consistent.”
STUDIOMIX’s mission is to energize, inspire and get results at all levels. They educate and promote the health benefits of a physical culture, aka. exercise.
“It was important to me to strip the vanity aspect of fitness from our brand,” explained Webster. “We see so many companies in the industry promoting unrealistic expectations and ideals. At STUDIOMIX it’s not about getting that beach body, rather working out to feel good, move well and live life to its fullest. If you feel good, you’ll look good.”
STUDIOMIX’s success is the perfect example of what can happen when a personal passion for fitness is combined with business acumen and experience. And, Webster shared a message of collaboration with others in the industry.
“There is room for everyone in this industry,” said Webster. “We all need to move for our wellbeing. Let’s work together to keep the world healthy and well.”
