Meet Alexis Farley, the general manager of HYPOXI Australia and an inspirational leader in the health and fitness industry. HYPOXI Australia is part of Fitness & Lifestyle Group, one of the largest health and wellness organizations in Australia. This prestigious family of fitness brands also includes: Goodlife Health Clubs, Fitness First Australia, Jetts 24 Hour Fitness, Go Health Clubs and HYPOXI USA.

CS: How did you get your start in the health and fitness industry?

AF: I was able to extend my passion for the health and fitness industry into my professional life when I became the in-house legal counsel for Goodlife Health Clubs in Australia. A few years later I transitioned to general manager for HYPOXI Australia and I’m thrilled to now be involved in the industry at both an operational and leadership level.

CS: What’s the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome and how did you overcome it?

AF: Transitioning from a legal career into an operational role was a challenge, as I needed to demonstrate enough industry, commercial, operational and management expertise while in a legal role. I worked very hard to develop a reputation as a strong performer with versatile skillset; built relationships and trust with those that could champion my progression; pushed for extra exposure I could get to the operational side; and commenced an MBA to extend my education beyond legal.

CS: What are the keys to your success?

AF: My keys include:

  1. Consistency, resilience and determination — I work hard and give my best to my team and business every day. Even if all I can manage is “one foot in front of the other” on hard days, I keep moving forward and focus on the end goal.
  2. Having a go — I always stretch and move beyond my comfort zone to grow. Whether it’s a new role, career or business strategy, you must put yourself out there to have success in something new.
  3. Commerciality — You need to be more than book smart. Understanding the commercial realities and ramifications of every decision is an important skill.

CS: How does HYPOXI differentiate from competitors in the industry?

AF: HYPOXI has unique, patented technology that has been delivering measurable results in targeted fat burning and cellulite reduction for 20 years. This proven technology allows clients to easily and naturally achieve more effective and targeted results than other offerings in either the beauty or fitness industry. Competitors are largely about working harder to achieve results — HYPOXI offers an easier way for everybody, regardless of age, fitness level, or body shape to reach weight loss and body shaping goals.

CS: Why should clubs consider partnering with HYPOXI?

AF: HYPOXI helps clubs convert under-utilized floor space into high ROI businesses, and assists clubs in attracting a slightly older, deconditioned or inactive client that is typically difficult to attract and retain. HYPOXI is a simple business model to run and integrate, allowing clubs to leverage their existing rent/floor space, database, marketing activities and management structure. It creates a truly incremental, high-yield revenue stream that enhances the club offering for existing members, and gives the club broader appeal to external prospects. HYPOXI also provides access to a support team with significant industry experience.
