Here, Skye Kaiss, a managing partner of Evolution Fitness in Saskatchewan, Canada, shares why he partnered with ASF, and how they’ve helped Evolution enhance their offerings and increase profits:
How were you introduced to ASF and why did you decide to partner with them?
SK: It was 13 years ago and they were a recommended vendor with Gold’s Gym Canada, which we were a part of at the time. They told us there were a lot of options out there, but they’d found ASF worked well, and recommended them to us. So they got us in touch with ASF and that’s why now I started a partnership with them.
But what actually happened is after being with ASF for a full year, I thought the grass may be greener on the other side — I was convinced by a different payment processor to switch over. So I had a one-year contract with the other company, and it was a disaster, a complete disaster. Exactly a year and one day after I switched from ASF, I switched right back. We’ve been partners ever since.
What do your staff and you love most about working with ASF?
SK: The reason I love them is they are a payment processor first, software company second. They will get you more money, they’ll put more money in your pocket, more often, compared to other companies — companies that may have some very shiny software. So when it comes to the bottom line, I believe they are the most efficient at getting the most amount of dollars. And for my staff, it’s good software. Whenever there’s a problem, it gets resolved pretty quickly — there is good backend support from their people over in Denver.
How has ASF benefitted your club and your members?
SK: ASF has given us the ability to process several different types of payments. For example, we’re on bi-weekly billing, which I guess isn’t really that common in the U.S., but it’s more common up in Canada. We have the ability to do that effectively, which is good because it breaks up the payments for our members— it’s not one big, bulk payment. It’s bi-weekly, which makes the payments smaller. And then we’re able to add the annual enhancement fee on top of the billing, which us the ability to bill more money and use that money to build better clubs. We’re able to be robust in terms of add-on payments for personal training, towel service, hydromassages, whatever it may be. We’re able to be robust provider.
How would you describe a ASF’s customer service?
SK: Just one word: great.
Why should other club operators consider partnering with ASF?
SK: The people and the money. They get you more money in your pocket, which is obviously the number one goal of any business. But they also have good people on the other side. I actually went down to visit the head office in Denver and spent a day with them a while back — they’re good people.
