According to the Sports and Fitness Industry Association pickleball participation has increased by more than 158% in the past three years with nearly 9 million people participating in 2022. USA Pickleball has also reported a +15.6% growth in the number of pickleball courts nationwide, going from 38,140 courts in 2021 to 44,094 courts in 2022.
Club Northwest in Grant Pass, Oregon is one of the latest facilities to offer an unparalleled pickleball experience to its members. The facility boasts nine state-of-the-art courts, including a Championship Court with seating for 100 spectators.
Other pickleball courts typically use a basic one-layer acrylic paint over asphalt surface, however the courts at Club Northwest are comprised of an impressive 17-layer cushioned court surface. This not only eases strain on players’ joints but also provides the best grip.
“All players are welcome, first-comers to pros,” said David Johnson, the director of pickleball at Club Northwest. “We’ve created a venue that has the highest-level user experience for players of all levels and connections to the fastest-growing sport in the world, with the ambiance of a luxury resort. Here, people can play, unwind, savor excellent food and drinks, and soak in the atmosphere.”
Members can engage in group play, reserve private courts, attend clinics, and enroll in private and small group lessons — all designed to enhance their game.
We’ll be hosting an array of events, including both tournaments and non-tournament events, with a focus on fostering a more social and enjoyable experience than conventional tournaments.
“Members can anticipate an inclusive experience tailored to players of all ages and skill levels, whether their aspirations lie in high-level competition or the sociable, joyous side of pickleball,” said Johnson. “We also offer a comprehensive pro shop stocked with premium products, including paddles, balls, backpacks, pickleball shoes, eye protection, apparel, hats, accessories and personalized paddle setup services.”
Overall, the courts have been very popular since opening in mid-September. Scott Draper, the founder and owner of Club Northwest, said they made the decision to level their old tennis courts and start from the ground up for the pickleball courts. This allowed them to put more attention to player experience instead of putting two pickleball courts per every tennis court.
