Leadership Viewpoint is a Q&A with an industry thought leader on their perspective of the health and fitness industry. This episode’s guest is Steve Pirt, the CEO and co-founder of FlexWerk.
Below is a transcript of part of the conversation.
Taylor Brown: Steve, to kick things off, I love to kind of see what are the common problems you’ve kind of been observing in the industry?
Steve Pirt: I’m gonna say hyper focused on the problem that we’re trying to solve here at FlexWerk, which is fitness professionals have few options, few viable options to have great careers, when especially they’re trying to remove themselves from the need of being someone’s employee. And they’re trying to venture out into being their own independent operator or boss. They lacked the space, they lacked the technology, they lacked the right business model equipment, and sometimes they they lacked the overall business acumen to be able to even know where to start, let alone how to progress or continue on after you know, their initial start.
TB: If you had one piece of advice for operators today, what would you share with them?
SP: Get out of the office, get back on the floor. Be an operator, I mean, you said the key word being operator. Talk to your consumer. Talk to your clients. Talk to your guests find out if you’re really solving a significant problem? Are you moving the needle? And you might be surprised if you haven’t done it in the last year, two years, five years or 10 years, going with the same curiosity that you started in this business with. Don’t assume, ask the questions and get the real data. And from there, you usually get the insights that sometimes you wouldn’t have led to based on your ego or your experience alone.
I found that served me very, very well in my career. I haven’t deviated from it, t’s part of the whole inception and still current development and feature innovation process of FlexWerk. That would be my advice, get out there and be relentless about trying to understand what the pain points are. If you can build specific solutions around that with your model or your offerings, I think you’re really going to stand out in your marketplace. I think it’ll be much more fulfilling to see the satisfaction of your consumers.
