Peak Engagement at Sport&Health

Peak Engagement at Sport&Health

It’s no secret that sometimes programming can get stale. Even with the greatest personal trainers and instructors, it is a constant challenge to keep members engaged and excited about working out.

Sport&Health is taking steps to offer something fun and unique to members with its Explosive Performance Centers located in each club. According to Kevin Boyle, the director of the Explosive Performance Centers, it is a division of the personal training staff that focuses on injury prevention, speed, agility and power training.

“Basically it is team athletic training,” said Boyle. “Our sites are set up to efficiently use the space we have, with some really high-end, cool equipment that lets us do our job at the level of the best in the industry.”

Sport&Health recently expanded the Explosive Performance Center at the Brambleton, Virginia location. The space now includes a turf field and high-speed treadmills.

“In most cases the EP centers were factored in from the beginning of the original plan for the club, and they allocated space for us, or we took over underutilized space like an old racquetball court that wasn’t getting any member usage.”

While it might seem like the Explosive Performance Center caters to athletes, Boyle explains that anyone, whether 9 years old or 90 years old, can participate. “Some of them have never exercised before and some of them are professional athletes,” added Boyle. “They all benefit from a system like this where you can progress and regress any given exercise and scale it to each individual’s means.”

Members can sign up for one-on-one training at the Explosive Performance Center, but the most common service is semi-private training with two to four people. The workouts focus on a variety of elements such as strength training, speed training and recovery techniques.

“The program has a little bit of everything,” he said. “You are going to learn how to lift heavy with appropriate weight, corrective exercises to clean up your movement patterns, and you are going to do some really creative, cool things in the movement skills area, with things like speed, agility and quickness drills.”

While the Explosive Performance Centers have been a great addition, Boyle explains with all the competition out there, it is essential to differentiate themselves from the rest. “Unlike a small town or rural city where there might only be one performance center in the area, in D.C. we have the exact opposite where there are 20 in a 10-mile radius,” added Boyle. “So because of the competitive nature, you end up with companies who sacrifice their ideals and quality of their products because they have to find ways to make more money so they can pay their lease.”

This is why Sport&Health has made it a priority to maintain the highest quality service. Boyle explained programming is based in science and only the best, proven techniques and training tools are used. Finally staff of the Explosive Performance Center are highly educated, enabling them to deliver positive results to each client.

“Year after year we have grown in the number of trainers, clients and location because our foundation is set in education and we have an emphasis on that,” said Boyle. “If I market to someone I am not telling them everything we can do, I am asking them what problems they have and then I am able to deliver solutions to them because of the education our staff has.”
