Getting back into your work after the Holidays can be a challenge, but we came up with three ways to get back into the post-holiday groove.
I would know. Over the past two weeks, I only worked a handful of days. In celebration of Christmas and the New Year, I instead spent a ton of time with family, caught up on television shows, went on long walks and read a handful of books that have been collecting dust on my bookshelf for months.
Hopefully, you got to do some activities along those lines as well. Everyone needs time throughout the year to decompress, relax and take time for themselves and their families.
But, getting back into the swing of things after this time can be hard for some. Even I got into a groove of relaxation, sleeping in later and later, catching up on news less and less, and overall transitioning from go-mode to slow-mode.
In fact, many dread the week after New Year — there’s a ton of work to catch up on, which can make this time extremely stressful. In addition, your sleeping schedule might have been thrown off, leaving you both mentally and physically exhausted.
But don’t fret. Here are some tips to help you get back into your workflow and transition from slow-mode to go-mode.
- Make a list of everything you need to do, ranked by prioritization. Start from the top and work down. It may sound simple, but trust me — if you try to do everything based off of memory, you will forget some important items, or spend time on things that don’t have a high priority.
- Wake up a couple hours prior to starting your official workday. This is true for any day of the year, but especially so for weeks after a long Holiday. Taking a couple hours in the morning to eat breakfast, workout and finish up any last minute chores will ensure your mornings are relaxing, starting your day off on the right foot.
- Eat well and exercise. Because this time is typically more stressful than others (think of all your new members!), it’s vital that your health is optimal. So, be sure to eat healthy and make time for exercise. Your mind and body will thank you for it.
