Managing a group fitness schedule can be difficult. It takes trial and error to figure out when to hold classes. And, what happens during the times you don’t have classes? Are members just out of luck?
At 68 Inside Sports in Overland Park, Kansas, the answer to that last question is no — members aren’t out of luck if a live class isn’t going on during the time they’re within the club. That is because the club offers Fitness On Demand, which provides access to group fitness classes at the touch of a button. Meaning, even if a class taught by an in-person instructor isn’t occurring, members can still participate in group fitness.
Here, Will Shields, the owner of 68 Inside Sports, explained the benefit Fitness On Demand has brought to his facility.
CS: What prompted you to invest in virtual group fitness through Fitness On Demand?
WS: We were trying to find a way to fill in the gaps between live classes. We thought, how can we cater to members who can’t make regularly scheduled classes, for example around 3:00 or on weekends? Fitness On Demand helped us solve that dilemma by giving members access to group fitness classes anytime.
CS: What are the benefits to your business and members as a result of this investment?
WS: What I like is it gives members the opportunity to try classes they might not be able to try. And, it lets them get comfortable with a class before they have to take it with other people. They can get comfortable and still get a great workout. In addition, it has helped us work with people whose jobs don’t allow them to take regularly scheduled classes.
CS: Have you been pleasantly surprised by working with Fitness On Demand in any way?
WS: Yes. I think they do a great job of adding new classes and content on a consistent basis. It gives you the flexibility to offer new classes, too, [without making an investment into purchasing licensing or continuing education].
CS: How are you leveraging Fitness On Demand in your facility to engage more members?
WS: We introduce new members to Fitness On Demand during the initial tour. That way they know they’re able to use the technology if they’d like to.
