SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 10, 2009 – Club One, a leader for award-winning fitness and wellness solutions, announced today that seven of its corporate partners were recently recognized by the California Task Force of Youth and Workplace Wellness for their commitment to employee health.

Club One, who operates nearly 100 distinct fitness centers nationwide including corporate onsite, community centers and branded health clubs, provides its corporate partners with turn-key fitness and wellness solutions to better engage their employees in healthier lifestyles and drive healthier bottom lines. This year’s California Fit Business Awards recipients include Club One corporate partners: Blue Shield of California, Sybase, Applied Materials, Electronic Arts, PG&E, Juniper Networks and Marvell.

“We’re honored to have been selected by such forward-thinking companies to help implement innovative and engaging workplace wellness programs that enhance the health of their employees, as well as their bottom lines,” said Jim Mizes, President and CEO of Club One. “Our partners, who experience the value of investing in the health of its people, are leading the charge in creating healthier populations. With 70 percent of all healthcare costs due to lifestyle choices, it pays to have a healthy workforce who has the opportunity to continually create new, life-long habits in and out of the workplace environment.”

From onsite walking clubs to web-based activity trackers to weight management group support meetings and nutrition seminars, Club One provides a variety of custom programming to its corporate partners that teach healthy habits in regard to movement and nutrition.

“With 86 percent of our employee population enrolled at our on-campus fitness center, more than 21,000 employee visits per year and an average of 80 well-attended group fitness classes each month, The Sybase Fitness Center is one of the most valued benefits offered at our Dublin, Calif. campus,” said Brad McInroy, Vice President of Corporate Services at Sybase, Inc., a leader in developing and expanding innovative database technology. “We credit the Club One staff with maintaining such high participation as a result of their friendly, caring attitude, honed professional skills, and expertly managed center. The program offerings are extensive, and we see direct measurable outcomes in the energy, health and well-being of our employees.”

According to the Wellness Task Force, more than half of California’s working-age adults are inactive, overweight or obese and cost the state $21.7 billion in lost productivity and workers’ compensation. With healthcare and obesity on the rise, it is especially essential for employers to implement programs that reduce health risks and improve healthy habits to help combat the financial responsibility of our nation’s poor lifestyle choices.

Designed to encourage employers throughout California to find new and innovative ways to promote physical activity and healthy nutrition habits among employees, The California Fit Business Awards reviews more than 80 workplace wellness programs by an expert panel. Award recipients were announced at a ceremony in Sacramento on Nov. 5.

Founded in 1991, Club One is a leading source for award-winning fitness and wellness solutions throughout the United States. In addition to managing more than 60 corporate fitness centers, community centers, multi-tenant business parks and municipalities, Club One also operates 15 Club One Fitness branded clubs in Northern California and five Frog’s Fitness branded clubs in Southern California, serving more than 125,000 members nationwide.

Club One’s innovative programs and exceptional service environments have earned it numerous long-standing awards, including: “Best Health Club”, “Best Place to Work Out” and “Best Places to Work” nods, as well as several Nova 7 Certificates of Excellence.
