A Good Group Fitness Schedule

Over the years I have seen many Group Fitness schedules, and most of them are difficult to understand. For many new members, understanding the group schedule can be like reading a foreign language. Most members are so confused by the Group Fitness schedule that they just can’t cope with the complexity. So, what happens? Classes go unused. Here are some basic tools for you to use that can help your members better understand the Group Fitness schedule. Ask yourself:

1. Is it a fun schedule? Group Fitness is fun, so why not make your schedule a social piece.
2. Are your class descriptions interesting, and do they have humor? Everyone likes to laugh, so why not make your group fitness schedule an entertainment piece.
3. Does it include fun fitness tips that aren’t too serious?
4. Does it give full contact information of the Group Fitness Director, the childcare hours and the club hours?
5. Does it include a map to success? For example: a description of how to use the schedule for utmost benefit. We are the experts and members are depending on us to tell them where to go and what to do. The schedule should be their guide to success.
6. Do you divide the classes by room and type? It may become very confusing if each room is not identified next to the classes offered. I have looked at a schedule that has all the classes offered on one time sheet and no one knows where the heck they are going.
7. Do you include if the there is a charge for the class or if it is free? Put a dollar sign next to the fee based classes so participants know.
8. A key guide that describes what your schedule means. Many times we use acronyms for class descriptions so a key code is nice. It also allows you to create your own group fitness language.
9. Do you have a guest pass that members can cut out for their friends to use and try the club? Duh?! Your group fitness schedule is a marketing tool. Where do you think the group fitness schedule goes for members? On the refrigerator! You should put a comment that says “Are you sure you want to open the refrigerator or just look at this amazing schedule and invite your friend to come along???” Have fun with the schedule.
10. Is your schedule intimidating? Members are intimidated! Take a look at your schedule and decide if it is intimidating. Also, make it look professional. There are just too many great applications out there to make your schedules look amazing.
11. You’ve gotta post it on Facebook. Get involved. Every day you have to say something on Facebook about the classes being offered that day. Let’s not miss this step.
12. Are you a great group fitness director? Your schedule is your message, your personality, your level of professionalism. Don’t let yourself down.
13. Cost of paper? Going green? Oh please…it’s not easy out there anymore. Competition is fierce. Go after it and be better than the rest. Use recycled paper and get your budget in place. A group fitness schedule is part of your advertising budget.
