Let’s get creative with promotions and member referral through group fitness!

If 80 percent of our membership comes from member referrals and statistics are showing that an average of 25 percent of our members are using group fitness and love it, then it’s obvious that we need to focus more on driving members via our group fitness attendees.

Many of us forget to take a good look at the affects of group fitness and it’s ability to retain our members for longer periods of times than members who are not using group fitness. Your group fitness instructors are your ambassadors. They are top dog on the totem pole in your facility. There is no other environment in your club where an employee can communicate and inspire so many people at one time.

So, for spring, think about some ways to drive more members through the door via your group fitness program. We are doing a “Spring into Fitness Campaign” that is run by our group fitness department!

Every time a member takes a class they get a star. The goal is for members to try as many different classes as possible. The star goes on a big chart next to their name that we have outside the group fitness room. If they bring a friend to class and that person joins they get an extra gold star. The person who participates to the end with the most stars and has at least four new members join, wins the highest prize of their choice, such as free membership time, or an iPad, etc.  Your sales team will love it, your members will love it and it’s empowering for the instructors to be a part of it.

Get creative fitness people!
