Everyone knows that in order to live a healthy lifestyle exercise is a must. We are bombarded with information about the latest workout protocols, but what is often overlooked is another essential component of a healthy lifestyle.
Working out often causes our muscle fibers to break down and if we don’t allow enough time for rest, that could result in injury. Meditation, stretching and myofascial release are critical to help our muscles recover, but very few gyms offer classes where recovery is a priority.
Sue Hitzmann is striving to change that with MELT Method, a program that works to heighten the body’s ability to repair and heal itself. Clubs such as Equinox feature the recovery program.
“MELT teaches people how to assess where stuck stress is living in their body and then [uses] soft rollers and balls on their body, hands and feet to teach them how to restore movement in the connective tissue system,” said Hitzmann. “It’s a way to empower people to actively partake in keeping their body balanced, stable and functioning efficiently so they can enjoy their active lifestyle with less pain.”
Whether you are highly active everyday or sitting at a desk all day, daily living creates stress and tension within our bodies. According to Hitzmann, the repetitive stress of daily living gets “stuck” in the connective tissue that surrounds every muscle, joint, nerve, bone and organ.
“Stuck stress accumulates and causes dehydration in the connective tissue, which interferes with the nervous system’s ability to regulate and slows down the body’s natural healing process,” explained Hitzmann. “This creates a domino effect that begins with aches and stiffness and leads to common health issues such as neck and low back pain, headaches, insomnia, digestive problems and injury.”
The MELT Method directly addresses stuck stress by rehydrating the connective tissue. It is a process anyone can benefit from.
“MELT is for anyone who wants to slow down the aging process and live pain free,” added Hitzmann. “For those in their 40s, 50s, 60s and older who want to stay active, mobile and independent — MELT is a must. MELT is also for active younger adults and athletes who want to maintain a fit, healthy body and achieve optimal performance without debilitating wear and tear.”
Instructors can become certified in the MELT Method, or clubs can hold special events. According to Hitzmann, the program is worth looking into.
“MELT events and classes allow members to enjoy the other offerings in the club that may seem too rigorous or impactful,” said Hitzmann. “It also allows people to learn how to care for their bodies so they don’t become injured trying to keep their body in good condition. The MELT Method educates and provides a solution to these common issues in the fitness industry so both fitness professionals and enthusiasts can keep their bodies pain-free, while enjoying looking great too.”
