Julia Muzquiz, the recruiting director for Chuze Fitness, recently touched on tips for recruiting top-tier talent to your team.
However, once that talent has been acquired, what are strategies for retaining staff? Here, she shares top tips for retaining your best employees, in her own words.
Offer Competitive Benefits
Aside from having a fun work environment and a free gym membership, we provide great benefits for staff. Some positions are eligible for medical, vision and dental insurance, 401K, and even pet insurance.
Create Opportunity for Growth
As a fast-growing, merit-based company, there are many opportunities for internal growth within the company. Our favorite promise to keep is that we will provide opportunity to those who work hard and never forget what’s most important — the people. We also have quarterly team bonding events, holiday parties that you actually want to attend, leadership training, culture training, recruiting workshops, fun team meetings, and so much more.
Make the Most of an Employee’s Time at Your Company
We’re very fortunate to have many employees that have made Chuze Fitness a career. We also have many staff that are students and have other career aspirations. We love to emphasize that the skills they learn from us aren’t skills that are specific to Chuze Fitness. Enlightened hospitality, learning how to provide feedback, how to lead a team, attention to detail, organizational skills and recruiting strong talent are all universal skills that can be utilized in any industry. It’s a privilege to benefit them in their careers and to teach life skills, even if their career isn’t with us.
From this, we hope to convey how valuable each employee really is. We want those people to look back at their time with Chuze as somewhere that they learned something and can take those skills with them through whatever career path they choose. We also love to celebrate successes and accomplishments like birthdays, anniversaries, completed degrees, babies, marriages and more.
Hold Company-Wide Initiatives to Spur Involvement
We love to do company-wide initiatives that pertain to both members and staff. This past September was Self-Care Awareness Month, and we asked our teams to share what they do to take care of themselves to help inspire our members to do the same. We hoped this would serve as a reminder of how important it is to practice self care on a regular basis. Practicing self-care plays a major part in living a happy life. We even offered $1 enrollment all September long to inspire or allow people who might not be able to afford a membership a chance to give themselves some self-care through fitness.
