Project 435 Update: The project has been widely supported and there are now only four states who do not have representation. Learn more below.
Project 435 is a grassroots effort kickstarted in February 2022 by the National Health and Fitness Alliance (NHFA) to secure strong representation for the fitness industry in every congressional district throughout the U.S. The goal is to form a team of fitness professionals who communicate as one, united voice to all 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Project 435 is for all sectors of the fitness industry, from commercial clubs, studios, medical fitness clubs, YMCAs and JCCs, as well as additional passionate fitness professionals who operate their own businesses,” said Kevin McHugh, the COO of The Atlantic Club and a member of the advisory council to the NHFA. “In our initial Project 435 team, our enrollees have an exciting and very diverse population.”
Project 435 has been widely supported since its foundation, and there are now only four states who do not have representation. This includes:
- West Virginia
- North Dakota
- South Dakota
- Oklahoma
So far, 244 of the 435 districts are fully covered. Additional support is needed in states such as Texas and California.
Following is a chart outlining the project’s progress, with color blocking showcasing where additional support is needed.
The NHFA’s goal is to have coverage in all 50 states by April 30th, 2022.
“We need all individuals in the fitness industry who are passionate for the future of their industry at all levels to take a stand with Project 435,” said McHugh.
