Picture 4Retro Fitness has announced plans to expand its presence throughout North Carolina.

Effective November 1, 2013, Retro Fitness acquired two of three Rapid Fitness clubs in the Triangle, N.C. area. The two locations — one in Downtown Raleigh and the other in North Raleigh — will transition into Retro Fitness locations. In addition, Retro Fitness will open a Retro Fitness club in Durham, N.C., which is expected to open in early 2014.

Michael Rattenni, the owner of Rapid Fitness and Triumph Group Management (TGM), will maintain ownership of the newly transitioned Retro Fitness locations, in addition to a third Rapid Fitness location on Glenwood Avenue.

As a part of the expansion plans, Rattenni and Retro Fitness have partnered with Bikram and Sonya Singh, a father-and-daughter team who own independent area franchising rights in the Triangle, N.C. area. The partners plan on opening an additional three to five Retro Fitness locations in the Raleigh-Durham area, with hopes of expanding to other markets in the future.

“I’m excited to give my members (of Rapid Fitness) a more cost-effective price,” said Rattenni, referring to Retro Fitness’ $19.99 monthly membership fees.

According to Retro Fitness, current Rapid Fitness members at the Glenwood Avenue location will be able to access any Retro Fitness location in North Carolina, while Retro Fitness members will be able to gain access to the Glenwood Avenue facility.

The $19.99 a month is decent, but there are Enrollment AND “Processing” fees. This sounds a lot like Peak Fitness. Remember them? Nope, most people don’t.
