With the latest Louisville acquisitions, Genesis Health Clubs now operates 63 locations in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, Florida, Iowa and now Kentucky.
Genesis Health Clubs has acquired Blairwood Tennis, Swim & Fitness Club and the Louisville Tennis Club, making them the 62nd and 63rd clubs, and Kentucky the eighth state in which Genesis operates.
The ownership group of Chris and Jill Burckle, Scott and Donna Brinkman and Larry and Sue Kline remarked, “These clubs were founded in the mid 1970s and we have been fortunate to be the owners for over 25 years. During this period there have been major improvements to the clubs as well as hosting national tennis tournaments and state swimming competitions. We are proud of what we accomplished, our wonderful staff and especially the customer support over the years.”
“It’s important for us to pass these clubs along to an established company like Genesis who has a national presence, knows swimming, knows tennis and understands how to run a world-class health club,” added the Burckle family, who is a prominent fixture in the sport of swimming in Louisville. “We couldn’t be happier to pass the torch to Genesis Health Clubs.”
Genesis Health Clubs owner and president Rodney Steven II gave insight into the complementary nature of the organizations. “I met Clark Burckle and we got to talking, after a brief period we realized that Genesis and these two clubs were a perfect fit,” he said. “Genesis has grown and thrived by growing and investing in tennis across the country and using that base to spread fitness across the cities where we operate. It always works best when the clubs have a strong legacy in the community, and these two established and iconic Louisville clubs certainly do.”
Steven continued, “Thankfully, it’s not just tennis. These clubs have excellent aquatics programming and solid fitness areas with group fitness and personal training. These are our bread and butter. We hope to honor everything the members already love and bring them even more of it.”
The transition to Genesis allows all full Blairwood and Louisville Tennis Club members to continue their memberships seamlessly with no interruptions or price increases. Members immediately gained access to many other Gold-level Genesis clubs nationwide at no extra charge. The clubs are now known as Genesis Health Clubs – Blairwood and Genesis Health Clubs – Louisville Tennis Club.
“It’s more tennis, more aquatics and more fitness options, plus reinvestment in the legacy of these clubs,” added Steven. “We’ve got exciting things planned in Louisville.”
