The judgement-free fitness center is expected to open by year’s end.
Ohana Growth Partners (OGP) — one of the largest franchise divisions of Planet Fitness — is growing its California portfolio.
It recently signed a lease for its third club in the state at 1850 South Norfolk St., San Mateo, California, 94403. The 23,000-square-foot space in Parkside Plaza was most recently occupied by Pet Club. Sami Zeger, the broker from Retail West broker, represented OGP, while Katie Singer, the CBRE first vice president, represented the landlord, KB San Mateo, LLC.
Construction is expected to commence later this summer, with Ignisio Studios as designer and Horizon Retail Construction, Inc. as contractor. Projected to open by year’s end, the club will feature best-in-class strength equipment, state-of-the-art cardio equipment, numerous flat screen televisions, a Black Card Spa for Planet Fitness Black Card members, free fitness training included in all memberships and additional amenities.
“We’re excited to expand in California because the strong sense of community closely aligns with Planet Fitness’ core values of creating a welcoming environment that supports and motivates members at every stage of their fitness journey,” said Justin Drummond, the OGP president, in a press release. “We’re thrilled to bring an affordable and high value fitness experience to the San Mateo community.”
In California, OGP currently owns and operates clubs in San Bruno and San Francisco (Lakeshore). With plans to open eight more locations in the state, the company is aggressively scouting sites in Pacifica, Millbrae, the Mission District, Van Ness corridor and The Castro.
