Developed by a team with more than 30 years of industry experience, Fitness2020 was built on the idea that fitness should be approachable, supportive and rooted in community. What began as a vision to create welcoming spaces where members feel comfortable reaching their goals has grown into a thriving brand dedicated to connection and results.
To bring that vision to life, Fitness2020 has partnered with Matrix Fitness since opening in October 2022 — resulting in a relationship that’s helped the brand deliver high-quality equipment, quick service and consistent reliability across locations. Together, they’ve built an experience that empowers members while keeping operations running seamlessly.
Below, Jason Pelusi, founder of Fitness2020, shares how the brand has evolved since its start, why relationships drive every decision they make and how partnering with Matrix Fitness continues to support their mission.
What’s the “why” behind Fitness2020, and how have you all evolved throughout your time?
We’re a relatively new company, but our team has had industry experience for the last 30 years. We’ve been with a couple of different brands, but wanted to branch out and be our own. We talked about creating our own vision of what we thought fitness would be like for our members and for ourselves. Myself and my two partners dove into that vision and have taken over a couple of existing locations and are now building new ones. We wanted to make sure we created an environment where people felt welcomed and like they could reach their goals. Working out is intimidating enough on its own, but when you can come to a place where you feel comfortable asking questions or seeking advice as a member, you’re gonna get better results and stay longer. That’s what we thought when we were creating the brand and opportunities for our members and our staff.
How have you adopted technology into your facilities?
Technology is evolving all the time. You have to somewhat keep up with it. Sometimes you don’t even know you’re using it right. Back in the day, people were signing up on paper agreements. Now it’s all electronic, and we use apps to check in. I think that comes as a natural progression, but you have to stay a little bit grounded because sometimes technology can be a barrier to your members. If you make the facility too technology-driven, people can be a little scared of that. We have implemented some technology, whether it be our interactive TVs or equipment with more technology than usual. All of those things allow us to capture the younger market, because they’re seeking technology a little bit more than the mature market.
How long have you all been a customer with Matrix Fitness?
We were a customer of Matrix Fitness as soon as our brand took off. Matrix has had a great relationship with us. They’re fast and they can meet deadlines. We gave our representative, Robert, an opportunity two months ago and said that if he could get us specific equipment in two months, the order is his. They do everything they can for us to make that happen. There’s obviously going to be challenges and hiccups as with anything, but they’ve never let us down. They’re very quick and a great partner. When you look at a vendor, it’s not about being a vendor but being a partner in your business. Matrix is definitely a partnership we include in our brand, and that’s been a wonderful experience with them.
Why did you initially decide to partner with Matrix Fitness? Were there specific problems that you were looking to solve, or was there a specific solution that you were looking to incorporate?
Our business is a relationship business — whether it’s with our staff, members or especially vendors. Our representative knows we don’t want any equipment down, so he’s going to do anything he can to speed up any warranty work or see if we can swap out equipment if something’s wrong. That experience is why we picked Matrix. It’s the relationship and knowing the expectation of our brand and how fast we want to be.
How has Matrix Fitness helped you all enhance your offerings?
Their flexibility and speed have helped. They have a quick turnaround. If you order something, you’re not going to wait for it. If anything’s wrong, they’ll take care of it. When you look at the importance of maintaining your equipment, it holds a lot. That’s why we picked Matrix.
How would you describe the customer service of Matrix Fitness?
Our representative, Robert, is just unbelievable. It doesn’t matter if I text him on Saturday or Sunday, he’s going to respond if I call him. He even comes to visit our clubs. It’s not only making that touch point — he checks in with me and our managers to ensure everything’s going well. That’s been the biggest part of the customer service.
Is there anything else that you could tell other club owners about the benefits of working with Matrix Fitness?
The reliability, even when they were a newer company, was incredible. Their equipment has evolved so much, and the pipeline of delivery when you need something is hands down top-notch.
