As of March 31, 2015, Facebook had 1.44 billion monthly active users. Twitter had 302 million and Instagram had 300 million. It is no secret that social media is an outstanding way to reach your audience of both current and potential members.
But with so many different platforms, navigating the social world can be daunting. With this in mind, pros share the social campaigns that have been a wild success at their clubs.
The 100-Workout Challenge
Where: Results Fitness
Social Media Platforms: Facebook and Instagram
Overview: “Every year our members have to perform 100 workouts at Results Fitness between July 1 and December 31,” said Aubrey Scarr, head of online marketing at Results Fitness. “Our members get really into it. They check-in on Facebook or Instagram with pictures from their workout, post a motivational quote or a simple, ‘10 out of 100 workouts completed.’ It not only keeps them accountable to the challenge rules, but now they’ve opened up to their community of friends, who will cheer them on and help them stay accountable to their 100-workout goal. Accountability is key when reaching for any goal and who is better to cheer you on than friends?”
#NACLife
Where: Newtown Athletic Club
Social Media Platforms: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
Overview: “More than a year ago we started a new hashtag campaign called #NACLife that allows members to post their pictures to social media,” said Linda Mitchell, director of public relations and community partners at Newtown Athletic Club. “Each month we select our favorite #NACLife posting and award them with a $50 gift certificate. We utilize hashtag campaigns for most of our programs to promote social media buzz. The #NACLife campaign has served us well to showcase all the ways we ‘Make Lives Better’ (our tagline) and we don’t even have to do the work. If you search #NACLife on Twitter you will see hundreds of posts, and that is just Twitter.”
Snap it, Tag it,
Post it, Win it Challenge
Where: Results Fitness
Social Media Platform: Facebook
Overview: “Our members are very active outside the gym,” said Scarr. “Whenever you’re out for a hike or even a quick run to the grocery store, you are bound to see one of our Results Fitness t-shirts or tanks. For the month of October we encourage our members to take a picture of themselves while out enjoying their favorite activities in their Results Fitness shirts. They have to snap a pic, tag us and post the picture to their page, and are entered to win some Results Fitness loot. This is a great way to connect with our members outside of the gym.”
