Group fitness programming is an obvious retention tool within the walls of your building. But, it’s also a great pathway to engaging the community outside those walls.
Community outreach is any activity where your employees provide services to or collaborate with anyone who might not otherwise have access to your club or services. This work within the community is focused on building relationships and partnerships that may or may not create financial gain for the club. We all want to do good in our community, but this is an easy way to gain visibility and become the trusted resource for health and wellness. It reflects your passion to engage the community in activities that promote health and wellness.
I do believe it’s smart to approach any community outreach opportunity with your core values and goal outcome in mind. Discuss how the event aligns with your mission, and discuss whether you’re engaging in this outreach for lead generation purposes or simply as a servant of your community. This way you’ve set the expectations.
Group fitness is a clear champion in your community outreach efforts. It’s cost effective, it takes minimal coordination and many times, group fitness instructors are your best salespeople.
Get creative with your outreach. Consider your target market and what they would be looking for. Who are your group fitness rockstars? Send them into the community to share their passion and format of expertise. Or consider your social media site to share your outreach with short class videos.
Some simple ideas for your next event:
Yoga in the park
Stretching at a senior center
Zumba at a local college
Kickboxing with moms at a local school
Bootcamp at the beach
Let your group fitness team shine in your community. You won’t regret it.
