Advice on attracting your health club dream team.
Often times, we tend to focus on customer acquisition and retention strategies to optimize business performance, and rightly so. However, a major factor that is arguably the foundation upon which those customer-based initiatives rest, are the employees.
But instead of just employees, think of them as the team – the individuals who emulate the mission and deliver the experiences to the members. These are the employees who are truly on the team, inspired, empowered and driven to live out the core values of the company on a consistent basis.
So how do you attract the dream team?
What about your organization is appealing compared to other opportunities that potentially pay more? I hate to break it to you – there is no simple answer. But there are a few things to consider.
Competitive Wage and Culture
Everybody has bills to pay and their own unique financial situations. So, staying at a competitive wage within your market is important. Additionally, we need consider today’s workforce and what they find valuable. Culture has just as much relevance to the team as it does for the member.
Candidates – those who have an innate desire – want to know they are joining a team that is inspiring, honest, fun and driven to achieve excellence together. Offering a work environment that is fun and exciting, along with a competitive wage is something that can tip the scales in your favor. Highlighting your company culture through social media channels such as Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube can be immensely beneficial in showing this – plus it’s free.
Offering a Variety of Benefits
Offering benefits can also be a game changer. Depending on your business performance, benefits such as medical and retirement plans are great. However, there are other benefits that can be showcased to help make your company more attractive to candidates.
These include:
- A free membership.
- Comped services.
- Free apparel.
- Discounted good or services with other businesses in your area.
- Regular team fitness challenges.
- Regular learning/growth opportunities.
The list can go on and I’m sure there are some really great strategies health clubs have adopted. But these are just a few to consider that can have little-to-no-cost but add tremendous candidate acquisition power.
My advice – be creative, try new things and most of all, remember company culture starts with your team.
