To accommodate the rise in strength training, Stone Creek recently remodeled their fitness floor.
In recent years there has been an increase of people flocking to the fitness floor. No longer just satisfied with treadmill workouts, many facilities are making room to cater to the reasons for the increased foot traffic.
“We’ve seen a marked increase in strength training in general, especially among our older and female populations,” said Elise Stolzle, the fitness director at Stone Creek Club & Spa. “People are really starting to understand the benefits of strength training, not only for increased muscle mass but also bone density, metabolism, and overall balance and core control.”
To accommodate this, Stone Creek recently remodeled their fitness floor to make more room for strength training.
“At Stone Creek, we’re always trying to keep our fitness space fresh and updated to meet the needs of our members,” said Stolzle. “The trend over the past few years has been a significant increase in functional training and free weight usage. The demand for more open space to accommodate functional training was the main driving force for our remodel.”
In addition to the downstairs functional space, Stone Creek reconfigured its Technogym selectorized equipment into a full-body circuit. This space, coined the “InMotion Studio,” is a great space for members who prefer to have a little more privacy than the bustling strength floor but still want a full-body workout. This area also has a cable system, free weights and cardio close by so members can get an effective and customizable circuit workout.
“The main goal of our Fitness Center renovation was to create more usable space,” said Stolzle. “This included removing about 30% of our square footage that is carpeted and replacing it with resilient rubber by Ecore. We also replaced aging carpet for a new fresh splash in the remaining area of the fitness center. We relocated our main functional training rig from the second story cardio mezzanine down to the main fitness floor in the new rubberized area.”
In addition to functional training equipment, Stolzle said they’ve added various heavy-hitter strength pieces from Matrix including a hack squat, a perfect squat, hip thrust, cable systems and an additional squat rack. “An adjustable cable system is a one-stop-shop for a full-body workout,” she shared. “Our personal trainers and members really enjoy the versatility of our numerous cable systems.”
Overall, Stone Creek added the following new equipment in the remodel:
- Resilient rubber flooring by Ecore.
- Matrix cardio equipment including treadmills, ellipticals and Ascent Trainer.
- Woodway treadmills.
- FITBENCH.
- Various pieces from Power Systems, YBell and Iron Grip.
“The reaction has been positive,” said Stolzle. “We believe change is good and if we’re not changing, we’re not progressing. Our renovations have encouraged our members to try new things and switch up their routines. We all know in the fitness industry that routine is the enemy. We’re loving seeing our members get out of their comfort zones and try new training styles and equipment.”
