Matt Tilburg is a veteran of Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts and has held executive positions at Equinox Group and Life Time Fitness.
Midtown Athletic Club & Hotel in Chicago today announced the hiring of Matt Tilburg as its new general manager.
Tilburg began his career in the hospitality industry at Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts where he mastered delivering industry-leading customer service at scale. He entered the fitness industry 15 years ago with Equinox Group, where he would go on to hold a variety of senior posts and open the company’s flagship club in downtown Los Angeles. Following his time at Equinox, Tilburg joined Life Time Fitness where he managed club portfolios exceeding $50 million in annual revenue and developed high-performing teams of more than 500 employees.
In his new role, Tilburg will be responsible for leading operations at one of the world’s largest and highest ranked athletic clubs, following the 2018 renovation and reconstruction of Midtown’s flagship property in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood. The $75 million effort expanded the club’s footprint to 575,000 square feet of world-class amenities, including: an outdoor pool deck, an indoor pool, a full-service spa and salon, six fitness studios with unlimited classes, a Pilates studio, 16 tennis courts, six pickleball courts, four paddle courts, an indoor basketball court, an adults-only rooftop lounge and a 55-room boutique hotel.
“Matt’s experience at Four Seasons, one of the leading hotel brands in the world, and his track record of achievement at both Equinox and Life Time make him uniquely suited to excel at Midtown Chicago, which aims to be the highest quality athletic club and hotel in the world,” said Steven Schwartz, the CEO of Midtown Athletic Clubs. “We believe Matt’s people-first leadership style and ability to deliver preeminent customer service will further elevate the Midtown brand experience for our members and associates.”
