An Inside Look at the New Mayweather Boxing + Fitness

Floyd Mayweather, undefeated former boxing champion, has created a new brand of health clubs: Mayweather Boxing + Fitness. The gyms feature specialized boxing programming based on Mayweather’s own training regimens, virtual reality training, personal training and several other workout amenities.

The brand opened its first location in Los Angeles on July 27, and has already become a popular, all-encompassing workout experience for local gym-goers.

Club Solutions talked to Mayweather himself to get insight on what led the development of the Mayweather Boxing + Fitness brand and his vision for the future of his gyms:

CS: What inspired you to open Mayweather Boxing & Fitness?

FM: I am fortunate my career in boxing has put my name on the global stage, and I have always guarded my brand and name, as I knew I could not box professionally forever. With that, it’s always been a goal of mine to be able to share my deep knowledge of fitness and training with the public in a hands-on, effective way. Knowing the studio fitness segment of the industry has been booming and boxing is one of the hottest and most effective group fitness workouts, we spent the last several years developing the Mayweather Boxing + Fitness platform to deliver a more effective, differentiated and immersive fitness experience than anything else out there, all under the banner of the Mayweather brand.

Mayweather Boxing + Fitness offers functional training for everyone, regardless of age or skill level. Every movement and routine has been carefully curated and is based on my own approach that I created during my two-plus decades at the top of professional boxing. This is the first time I’ve ever revealed these workouts and am incredibly excited to share them with all of our Mayweather Boxing + Fitness members.

CS: Talk about your training plan — what can members expect from it?

FM: We offer an authentic experience for people who want to learn my techniques and training regimes, while getting in the best shape of their lives in a high-intensity group fitness setting. Each of our classes consists of 12 rounds — two warm-up rounds, four bag rounds, four functional training rounds and two core rounds — where members can burn upwards of 1,000 calories per class. Our trainers coach people on correct form so they can quickly see significant improvements in their punching and functional movements.

Our workouts are challenging and efficient for anyone who participates — from first-time gym-goers to professional athletes. At our flagship location, we have everyone from members in their 70s who hadn’t worked out in decades to Navy SEALs, professional athletes and stay-at-home parents. Members train smarter by wearing heart rate monitors in class, and tracking their progress and workout stats in real-time.

We designed the studio to be welcoming to first time members, from the open lobby to the warm and friendly staff who make any person feel comfortable when they walk through our doors. Gyms have traditionally been daunting for some people to walk into, but we strive for the opposite and treat our members like family — with each franchised location an extension of the Mayweather family. Through the effectiveness of our workouts and our focus on community, we make sure our members feel like champions at the end of every class.

CS: What’s your vision for the brand?

FM: My goal is for there to be Mayweather Boxing + Fitness members in every community around the world, whether through one of our studios, our digital app or our VR product. We’re democratizing fitness and making it accessible to anyone. We have a rapid growth trajectory, with plans for 500-plus locations within five years and see this to be very realistic after the incredibly positive response we’ve already received from those interested in purchasing a franchise immediately following our announcement. It is extremely important to me that we are in all types of neighborhoods throughout the world as the Mayweather legacy is expanded. My vision is we continue to build champions every day in hundreds of locations.
